Rehab/Inpatient—a rehabilitation setting. The course of treatment takes from three weeks to three months.
Therapeutic Community (TC)—a stationary residential setting of a closed type with intensive treatment and a rigid internal regimen. The course of treatment is from six months to two years or more.
Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), Narcotics Anonymous (NA)—a voluntary community of people who share their experiences and hope, helping each other rid themselves of drug and alcohol dependence. These communities are not professional medical organizations. There are no counselors or psychotherapists. If counselors are present, they are there as regular members of the meeting, like everyone else.
AA and NA do not pursue any commercial interests and exist solely through donations from their members. Entrance is for everyone and free to all. Today, these meetings take place in many countries around the world. AA/NA practices a 12-steps program based on moral and spiritual principles.
